How to paste images from another scene proportionally?

I am trying to copy-paste images from one scene to another. The other scene has different proportions than the first one. When I select the images on a layer, copy them and paste to the other file, the images get stretched and distorted as to fit the new proportions. How can I paste them proportionally?
EDIT: I have found out that pasting the whole layer keeps proportions, but it means I need to delete all the drawings I don't need...

I, as well, often wondered why this is.

You can also use the KeyFramer Tool .
1.) Original images on layer in a 4:3 aspect ratio project sized 1280 x 960
2.) New project in 16:9 aspect ratio 1280 x 720 . Problem is if you simply copy and paste a frame from the original 4:3 project into the 16:9 project the image appears stretched .
3.) So , now you have two projects open , the original Project #1 in 4:3 aspect , the new Project #2 in 16:9 aspect ratio. Instead of copy & paste from the original project to the new project , go to the second project and open FX Stack -- KeyFramer -- go to the Render Tab and for the Source choose Project #1 as source. This will bring the images from Project 1 into Project 2 at the original size and proportion . Use Keyframer coordinates to position the images wherever you want within the frame.
A couple of extra steps , but it works. It's nice if you need to reposition the images in the frame because you can do all that in the Keyframer before applying FX stack.
However, I think Select Layer , Copy Layer (Ctrl C) , Paste to new Project, and delete any unwanted images (Ctrl X) is faster .
I agree with you it would definitely be a good feature to be able to just copy a single FRAME or as selection of FRAMES (not the whole layer) and be able to paste those to a new project that has different aspect ratio , and keep the pasted images in proportion .
.

I found several quirks in the process.
1. Different project dimensions - this causes, as reported, distorted images in simple copy&paste.
2. Different frame rates - this causes omission of frames, both in copy&paste and in using the keyframer.
3. Keyframer imports into only 1 layer, thus merging whatever is visible in the source project.
I'm working in 25fps. But whenever I open a PSD file into TVP it opens as 30fps - why? This is not even the frame rate I specified when starting TVP.
So #2 is a big issue for me, especially since I only noticed after I merged several large projects into one.
I suggest that "keep pixel dimensions and aspect ratio 1:1" and "keep all frames" should be default behaviour.

Thank you for putting the light on that. You're right, it's not a normal behaviour !

Sorry, this is an old issue, but I have stumbled at the same problem again in TVP 11 - did this get solved somehow?
Problem: I need to paste a whole layer from one project to another with smaller dimensions to fit the drawings proportionally.
So far it seems impossible...

Indeed, there is no "quick" way to do so. You'll have anyway to use either the keyframer, or custom brushes or export / import.

thanks for the reply
It would be nice to be solved in the future - can I put it in Feature Requests?
For now I am using a simple workaround - I modify the bigger project to fit the smaller dimensions, and then copy/paste the whole layer, then get rid of the modified project. It's not that long, but would be nice to avoid that stage.
