Tvpaint bizzarely unresponding

Hiya everyone, I'm new so I hope i'm abiding by the forum rules.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 64 bit with TVPaint Pro 10.0.18-64 bits. I am using a wacom cintiq DTZ 1200w so basically a dual screen set up, which might be causing it.Heres the frustrating issue i've had for awhile...

I'll be working in Tvpaint, when I've clicked away to another program and come back to Tvpaint...it is unresponsive to my clicks. No spinning rainbow wheel of doom. Just...not responding. The cursor moves my CAN'T CLICK or DRAW anything..It forces to me either wait it out (which is pretty random) or to close Tvpaint and reopen it.

Any help would be fantastic~

First thing, 10.0.18 is pretty old, you should update to 10.5.4 (it's a free update).
If the problem is still there, then call back here.

Do mouse and Cintiq pen give different results?

This is odd.

Have you tried with the cintiq as only screen ?
With the other monitor as only screen (you say it does it also with the mouse) ?

My cintiq is the sort that doesn't exist as it's own computer, it has to be connected to laptop.

Yeah I can scrawl with my trackpad in Tvpaint fine...so maybe it's the pen that deciding to stop working?

If it's only the pen, try updating the wacom drivers.

You can close the lid of your MBP, and then your Cintiq will become the only screen - try it. Although I don't think this issue is because of this.
Another, pretty dull question - does it happen in another software too?
And yet another question - try to disconnect your cintiq, and then draw with the mouse on TVPaint - if it works, most probable you have problems either with the pen either with wacom drivers.

No this problem only happens in Tvpaint. Adobe suite is perfectly fine.

Just downloaded new drivers from http://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the problem is still happening, and still the only way I can get around it is to tap around or wait for it to snap out of it.

Ok wait, I just read a tip about plugging the wacoms pen USB cable into a main usb port rather than a usb hub....and thought i solved it for about 10 minutes..but then it returned, and after clicking a few more times and it works fine again. This problem is so erratic, could it be i'm not selecting Tvpaint properly after jumping around monitors, and this is why the strokes aren't registering?
Thanks for all your advice so far though.

USB ports: some devices are more demanding than others, you may have noticed that they work on one port but not on another. The Cintiq should get a port directly at the computer, and the main one, if possible.

Wacom drivers: Some 3 or 4 times a year the driver completely fails on my Mac, I get either wrong coordinates (curser far off from pen) or no response at all. (The mouse still works fine.) Have to reboot then.

TVP not responding: I've noticed that TVP doesn't respond to certain commands from the dock and is often lagging when I want to hide it. Of course this is different on Windows, but maybe there's a way to fine tune your task manager (?) or whatever gadget controls this on windows.

Another blunt advise: try plugging it into another usb port (you have 3 of them) - I remember sometimes usb issues got resolved that way.
did you try with the lid closed? oh - wait, you didn't mention actually, which model MAC you have?

On my Mac the top USB port on either side ist the "good" one - that's where the Wacom has to go, and all sticks and dongles as well. The port below seems to be not working at all. (Whichof course is grossly shitty design by Apple.)

Hi! I get the same bug as you. I have a similar set up and this bug happens on both my mabcook and my imac. All my drivers and software are up to date.

I notice that if I lift my pen high enough so that it loses the contact with the cintiq, it starts working back normally right away. I developed the reflex to do that now, so it doesn't really slow down my work, but it's a bit annoying ;)

It might be a cintiq issue that will be resolved when they issue a new driver. There was a similar bug a few months ago where the pen would resize on its own each time I left the software to another app and came back. Took a new wacom driver to fix it.

Have you considered going back 2 or 3 drivers?
