Hi,
I experienced repeatedly crashing when I performed merge selected layers command. Files were not too big and it happened with more then one different project. I will survive but it could be a bug, so just to give you a hint to check. :)
all the best!

I think some years ago this happened to me with some very large files - 8 GB or so, more than my RAM.
Have you checked your free disc space? How large are the files, and how much RAM does your computer have?

It happens with any project, it is just something it random happens, not always (which makes it even more annoying :) ) so I don't see the purpose with posting the file. But one thing crossed my mind, thou. Maybe when I merged some of the files I forgot to turn off the stencil in one layer, computer freaks out every time it has to merge something which involves stencils, so maybe it is some memory issue. And yes, it's about time for me to get something with more memory but I am poor ...

usually 1920x1080 but sometimes double, so 3840x2160, and honestly, after I take precaution so nothing is stenciled or locked, I didn't experience weird crashing. Maybe this is the issue, plus memory.

I mean the size in bytes, not the definition ^_^
