a suggestion for the interface

This is not a feature request, but I made this test to see if the interface could be made clearer for the new people.
I've always been a bit bothered with all these horizontal lines in the timeline. (timeline resize, audio and notes)

Here in the mockup, I tried to reduce some of those and tried to make it even more welcoming.
Just so that the interface could be understood more quickly.

How does it look? Is this kind of change possible? Maybe play more with the gradients to really separate different sections.

I'm all for simplicity in an interface. I was about to ask for less lines in all interface elements, because we have so many of them and it gets a bit cluttered. This week I'm on the road (got an animation teaching job, yeah, and try to get them to buy some TVP licences), i should do some mock-ups next week.

Once I started looking, can't stop
Is "this space" occupied? What about "this line", does it have to be there?
Here's a modification with everything, better?
Also,
I'd try to lose these light grey lines. I don't see why they should be there. Less seems to be better.

All the shades and gradients could be different, but there you go. Ideas to think about.

TVPaint, with all due respect, in general has a bit clumsy interface and I believe it has to undergo a general design renovation. the empty spaces and unnecessary lines were discussed already before. With all that, I believe, that TVPaint crew has more important issues to deal with and hopefully they will be able to come to this one once they feel more relaxed?

it's a bit scary. I came to the forum today, to post the same suggestion, like your second mockup and now I found this thread.
