Some newbie workflow questions!

Hello! I'm really new to tvpaint and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I'm animating a scene where two characters walk towards each other and then hug. At the moment I have each character animated on separate layers, just linework at this stage, but I was wondering how to go about colouring them. Do I merge the two layers and colour the resulting layer or is there someway to keep the two layers separate? What's the usual way to approach animating a scene like this?

My other question was: I want the animation to be solid coloured artwork with no outlines and I was just curious as to how people tackle that? I know there's the colorize line effect in 10.5 but is this the only way? The obvious thing would be to just switch off the linework layer I know but then the white gaps between the areas of colour are visible (and also there tends to be some aliasing from the colour-fill tool!)

I really appreciate any help you could give me, thank you!

I'd colour the line art. Dupplicate that layer, set it to "preserve transparency", and paint with a big brush with the colours of the fills.

I tend to keep line art and colour on separate layers (as long as possible).

thanks so much for getting back to me! Have you any advice on how to approach the hugging characters bit?

At one point switch to a single layer to animate both at the same time. You can pick whichever one you want.
