Manual wont pop up

Help/F1 has no effect. No manual, no error message Reader does not start up. I have other software tools
installed where this does work as expected (i.e. click on that tools help and the manual opens in Microsoft Reader App).
I can click on the manual.pdf and it does open as expected.

I have a new installation of 10.5.7-64bits running on Windows 8. I have read thru the information about
installing the manual.pdf file in the installation folder, and have done that. It has been placed in

C:\Program Files\TVPaint Developpement\TVPaint Animation 10 Pro (64bits)\Data

Manual.pdf properties say ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and Users have Read & Execute and Read privs.

The General Properties Security: is Unblocked (It was blocked and the message next to the Unblock said:
This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.) But I Unblocked it.

The only weird thing is that when I copied the manual.pdf into the Data folder, I got a pop up box saying I needed Administrator Privs to copy
it in that folder. I said CONTINUE and it got placed in that folder.

I think everything is OK with your computer.

But maybe there is a connection error between pdf-files and your windows (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_association" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Try the following:
- right click on the manual.pdf and choose "open with", when there is the option to choose "Microsoft Reader", choose it and it should open the manual. Than you know that your reader is able to open pdf.
- if it not opens the pdf or if there is no "Microsoft Reader" in the "open with"-dialog, you could install another PDF-Reader. I am very happy with the Foxit-Reader you can free download from their website. (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Let me know if this helped :-)

Thanks for the detailed reply. The file is associate with the Microsoft Reader. One test I did was to associate the manual.pdf with Word and invoking Help/F1, Word was invoked. Word wanted to convert the pdf and I declined.

I set the manual.pdf association back to Microsoft Reader, and Help/F1 does not get the manual open.

I might have to install the Foxit Reader you suggest. I was hoping to understand this because I am concerned about the integrity of the TVPaint installation, and maybe will find something else broken down the road.

Had the same problem on the school's computers. Turned out that they didn't have any Adobe PDF viewer (which is free) installed. After installing it help files/manual opened without trouble.

What will happen when you remove the manual.pdf from the installation folder (...\data\manual.pdf) or give it a different name?
Do you get an error message like this: "...\data\manual.pdf - File not found!"? If yes, I would say, that TVPaint is in a good condition and there could be some trouble with the pdf reader. Then, I would install the foxit reader, or like slowtiger suggested, the adobe reader.
