.TVPP compatable

Hi all.
Since I have to use some *.TVPP files again I saved in TVPaint 9, I now have some problems. I can only see the first frame of a layer as if it's a one frame layer. In the control panel all the separate thumbnails are blank exept for the first one. This goes for all the layers. Is this because of the difference between a 32 bit system and a 64 bits system. I thought the files are compatable in all systems.
Also I having this weird problem that I have to load the soundfiles of my older tvpp projects everytime again. My sound files are saved in the a project folder and they stay there.

.tvpp files are not affected by the 32/64 bits difference : files created with the 64 bits version of TVPaint Animation can be read with the 32-bits version, and vice-versa.

Check the toggle in Preferences>Display>Layer Thumbnails...

Hi.
Oké. That's what I always thought. I can even load .MIR files without a problem in tvp 10 64bit.
Display tumbnails is on. Settings in TVP 9 and 10 are the same.
I try and explain the problem again.
I have life footage in a few layers and other layers with drawn animation. The live footage is originally a lowres Quicktime movie for offline. In TVPaint 9 all the images are visible.
When I try to load the TVPP file in TVPaint 10 the life footage is not longer visible. Only the first frame of the layer is shown and the rest of the images are blank. They are just not there.
I don't work that often with life footage so there are few files to compare with. I can't find files with missing images like this one.
If I send the file to you can you check thing that I can't?
Regards Henk Beumers.

The problem is simple :
Your video is a source. When you open your file with tvpaint 10, it probably loses the link to the original video.
You just have to import the video again and hit "pre-load" in the import footage panel.

Does the "preload" option implement the footage in the file? so the TVPP file size gets bigger, but the imported footage is part of the TVPP and doesn't need to get relinked?

Oh great I didn't know this feature exists.

Hi.
Seems logic.
But according to the manual I have to click on the file name and automatically the requester will open in which I have the choise to preload, amongst other options.
My project is opened in TVP 10 and the only option I have is the "open" button. So if I open the *.mov file again nothing happens. No requester. Just nothing.
It must be something so obvious but I'm stuck.
edit.
In the meantime I opened a new testproject in TVP 9 and preloaded the *.mov with preload checked. I saved it and opened it in TVP 10 and every thing is oké.
So Elodie, if I'm correct I have to reload the same *.mov file in TVP 9 with preload, because in TVP 10 there is no way to do this.
Leaves me with the problem at this moment that I have to do the edit of a few day's again. I will find a way around it.
Is the fact that I have to reload my sound files almost every time again related to this?
I already mentioned this problem a while back and the advice was to save the soundfiles in a folder within the TVP project. But it doesn't make a difference. I still have to reload the sound file when I open the project again and it takes forever because the requester comes back a lot of times for a single file.
Henk.

The 64bit version of TVpaint cannot import mov quicktime files any more
see very long topic here:

It would be best if you could export the mov video as a PNG sequence. You can then import the PNG sequence as a new layer.

Try to check "save dependencies in the project" (in the menu: Project->Dependencies->save dependencies in the project). That way it will save the sound in the file and you don't have to reload it.

Hi Furushil.
I knew TVP 10 64bit wil not import 32 bit movie file. That's why I used TVP 9 to do that. I just didn't expected the problem I ran into now. I just thought that the reply of Elodie proved me wrong. In the meantime I found out what she ment I think. ( See my edit of the prevous reply.)
In TVP 9 there is no save dependencies. So I already tried to do that somewhere in the timeline but that didn't work. In TVP 10 it works fine so in future projects I will see to that. But hey, it worked fine before.....
Strange though. I use TVP for so long and I never had these problems. Maybe I was lucky. I don't exactly remember when it started. I think it was TVP 9. Not sure.
Thanks Henk.

Instead of using TVPaint 9, you can use TVPaint 10 Pro 32 bit.
Check "pre-load", so your video will be loaded in the TVPaint file and so, no sourcing problem anymore (but your TVPaint file will be bigger).

Hi Elodie.
Of course. I could use TVP 9 32 Bit. But I'm back to 4gig memory max then. I don't like the thought of that. The problem seems not to be a 32 bit isue. Somehow I was convinced that preload ment that the footage was loaded but did not make a part of the TVP file. I always liked the fact that all data was stored in one project file so no problems with missing files because of a HD that crashed or a relocation by mistake like in AE or Premiere. And for a long time I never had a problem with missing files. Than al of a sudden I get these messages of missing sound files. So if that problem is solved by the use of preload than my problem is solved. At least thís problem of the "disapeared" image files which I now had for the first time. I don't see how I can preload the soundfiles because they keep missing in TVP 9 but lets hope this is solved in future projects by using "save dependencies to the project".
The rest is still a mistery. ( see other posts without finding a solution.) It must be a hardware isue since no one else seems to have these weird amount of problems.
( still I can't see how a faulty hardware piece can come up with a ghost pen that is haunting me at least once an houre if not more frequently. )
But that does not belonge in this topic. Problem solved for now.
Regards Henk.

It's just to load your video file in 'preload' mode and save the .tvpp.
Then you can get back to 64 bits for all the subsequent work on that .tvpp.
You can install 32 & 64 bit versions at the same time.
