Playback preview during multiplane FX

When I use multiplane FX and switch on preview, it will barely run. That is, when I try to play using preview, it is really, really slow to the point of unusable. I end up having to switch it off and hope for the best, render the move and then if I need to make changes, go back and do that and render again. Is it normal that preview does not function? Or barely functions? I have a very fast iMac and the scene has about 12 layers. I am doing a hold and then a zoom in with a multiplane effect. Nothing too complicated.

This is 12 full frame layers which are calculated in size and position for each frame, so of course playback is slow.

Isn't it possible to do a proxy for stuff like that?

If I create a 12 layer multiplane scene in AnimeStudio it will not play back in real time as well. To control smoothness I have to render it as video. So trust me, multiplane setup previews are very demanding to any software.

Of course, I do this whole camera stuff usually in After Effects and their it has to prerender a while too, if you got 12 layers. But it would be nice if you could get something like the proxy preview in TVPaint for it, so you don't have to render a file to preview it.

Good to know this is not an issue with me. I can certainly see that it is demanding to preview 12 layers. I guess the preview is only really usable when the scene is very simple.
