Really need help!!!

Greetings to everyone out there.

I ran into a bit of a problem. Earlier, was doing my thesis (on TVP 10.5.7-64 bits), when I realized I needed to consult with my prof in a few minutes. I decide to save my work, wait for it to finish saving, close my MBP's screen (leaving TVP open), leave the dongle plugged and carry my laptop off to my prof's office.

At one point during my presentation, I pushed TAB to switch scenes, when I realized that 7 of my 13 scenes just disappeared. I didn't know how or why, but it just did. Not sure why, I decided to press Undo (CMD+Z) a bunch of times with the Project viewer open, to see if I somehow pressed a scene-deleting button (or merger, or what have you) by accident. Needless to say, nothing happened, and my scenes remained gone and missing. I Redo (CMD+Y) my moves back up to my most recent paint bucket fill, and apologize to my prof for the technical issues, promising a rescheduled consultation sometime next week.

Here's my main problem: My project (which has around 13 scenes) somehow lost 7 scenes, leaving me with 6 scenes, 7 missing scenes, half a thesis done, and a whole 2 months' worth of work gone. I checked my TVP backup and it was also affected.

What do I do? I don't want to tell my prof next week that I just magically lost 7 scenes' worth of work because I closed my laptop screen. ):

When you have an issue with TVPaint Animation, please, don't forget to precise important details :

• What is your OS and its version :

- Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), etc...
- Windows Vista, 7, 8, etc...
- Linux Ubuntu 10.04+, Debian 6+, RedHat Entreprise Linux 5+, Fedora 15+

• What is your OS architecture (32 or 64 bit)

• What is your software version (for example : Mirage 1.5, TVPaint 9.5.21, TVPaint 10.0.11, etc...)

• What is your software edition (Standard or Professional)

• For the Professional Edition of TVPaint 10 : What is the architecture (32 or 64 bit) ?

By the way, don't forget to repeat the details above EACH time you have an issue. We cannot remind the configuration of all our users
(to save time, you can write the information above in your sign)

Moreover, don't forget that the more you will give us concrete examples with images or downloadable files, the faster we could answer you.

Which TVP backup do you use?
If you have a time machine backup set up, you could maybe try to recover your file with that.

I am sending my computer to sleep without closing TVPaint all the time (sometime for days) and never ran into problems. So, I don't think that that was the problem.

I was referring to the backups made from EDIT > PREFERENCES > MULTI-BACKUP. I always had two, and I clearly remember my project had at least 3.2gb in filesize. Now, even both my backups is showing 432mb, original file included.

I don't think this is ever going to be resolved anymore, so I'm just going to start from scratch again (starting at the seventh scene). It's sad, but if it were possible to recover, I'd do anything to get my old work back. ):

You could try some data-recovery tool. It's not probable, but it's not a big deal to try it.

Just an idea about what could happen. It's not a solution for now but maybe helps to understand for future times.

In the last 5 years I had two times the situation with a student who lost her work, because she saved over the network and logged out from her profile during the save process. She interupted the process. A day later she opened her project and lost the last scenes (clips). She didn't made backups and had to do her work again. The second case was when a student saved his file over the network and there was a short network interuption and parts of his projects were lost. To have Auto-Backup is a good option - now every of our students is using it.

So I think in your case it could be possible, when you saved your project and sent your Mac to sleep (???, when closing the laptop), the process of saving was also interupted. And maybe you pressed one time the save button after you came back to your project. With that save you have maybe overwritten your backupfile. You could check the data stamps of your project and backup file and if there time fits with your professors meeting it would explain, what happened.

I am really not sure if it is possible, but I would try a data recovery tool - as schwarzgrau suggested.
