Split screen?

I am doing some shading and I want to be able to see the reference of the last instance so that I can match it. Is there a way to split screen so that I can see the previous instance on the screen at the same time to follow the design as I do it?

You could do this in the Library if you had TVP 11.

Or use the new lighttable mode "Image Color" combined with the "Out Of Pegs" functionality.
But that's in TVP11.

I mostly have another project (Let's call it "B") opened at the same time when working on project "A". In "B" I am collecting references from the internet etc. It is also very easy to make a copy of one picture of "A" and put it into "B" (Copy to Clipboard, Make brush from Clipbord, stamp it). It is a very little bit more work as with the new library, but it works great in 10, 10.5 and 11. Just be sure to make your project-windows stays in front (Reference/Interface/Project window - uncheck "Always behind ...")
It is also possible (but a little bit tricky) to put both project windows touching each others left and right side to get a kind of a splitscreen. But it is too much try and error to be a comfortable solution. That's maybe the point, where the new library comes into play. But i don't know how.

So in 11, is the image library a window you can float while working on your scene? Sounds like there is more than one option in 11. I suppose I could also do a screen grab and float that on the second monitor.

That's about the crux of it -- easy to create a floating picture out of the library frame.. I hadn't realized that you want to constantly follow a screen showing what's happening one frame behind your current one; I thought you just need an occasional reference snapshot. For that the library is ideal. I guess I'm not clear on your needs because isn't this pretty well covered with the light table?

Light table doesn't work because for adding shading, I need to see it at full opacity and not under the current frame, otherwise, I would not be able to judge the density of the shading. I think screen grab is going to work for me until I get 11.

Yes, a screen grab is the closest to a library grab. The beauty of the library grab is in its streamlined simplicity. Click inside the Library and your current screen image pops up inside the library. and if it's too small for you, click again and it's full size, outside the library again, where it can be shove into any position and size you need. Click again and it's gone, no popup questions ever asked.

That sounds nice, but full size is not working here. I can only change the size from 50% to 200%. Full size (or full size inside the size of the library window) would be cool - specially when able to move the picture with the mouse (hand tool). When I left-click on my lib images, nothing happens. With the right-click I get a menu to rename, delete, ....
Maybe you are more uptodate? Or on a beta?

RMB on top of picture and and select :new project from this image". Instantly the image turns into a project window which you can handle anyway you wish, including flipping the the image.

Ah, OK, I think I had understood you wrong. I thought you describe a one-click-full-screen option inside the library. Sorry
.

Yeah, that seems to be an enormous undertaking to achieve, including video files. If the library were to permit us to enlarge pictures up to 400% or simply up to their original size the second click wouldn't even be necessary. As Far as I understand the workings of the library, to permit large sizes could make it unmanageable within a project and cause destructive crashes and long waits to upload. I would like to suggest that over a certain magnification a popup warning would appear that this might cause bla.blah and the user should proceed at own risk (this is common practice within other software.) My Temp HD is an SSD and could handle large sizes so I would gladly assume the risk. Anybody else to agree with me on this one?

This is the only page I can find explaining the Library and it is very basic.
http://www.tvpaint.com/doc/tvp11/index. ... ps-library" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Is there another source which explains in more detail how the library works and what it can do for me? So far, it just looks like a place to store some jpegs, but I understand it does more than that.

have a look under "
Guides / Image "
it shows how to use one of the library picture as reference (displace, re-scale, and stick it somewhere outside the working area).

So this is where the library does what I was asking in terms of a floating reference, but why the heck is this library function listed under "Image"? How would I know that this is what the library does? Well, I do know, but how do I find out what else the library does? I understand it can store colour palettes for the scene the library is associated with. Where would info about that be?
