TVPaint crash problem

I just spent the morning working on a set of brushes and when I went to save the custom panel of brushes, during the TVPX export, TVPaint crashed. This has happened before. Spent the whole morning working on these brushes and now they are gone. Is there any way to recover this panel, even though TVP crashed while exporting? As this has happened before, I wonder if there is some way for any new panel to be embedded without saving, or exporting it, at all. How can I avoid losing all this brush making work like I just did?

thats a bummer, sorry to hear this.
As far as i am aware there are no salvage options.
For the future, the most secure method would be to save the brush-building tvpp project regularly
and also to embed a copy of the tvpx panel inside that project (great new feature in 11) you still need to save the project though!
as this happened before can you trace down the cause?
could it be you were trying to save over a network? (this sometimes causes my tvpaint to crash as well)
because normally tvpaint should be pretty stable. reoccuring crashes like these could point to a bug.

Whenever I build brushes I first save them in the brush bin, then save the project, then to a panel. I also keep "brush projects" because sometimes I have brushes of 100 frames.
That said: what can I do if a brush doesn't export as TVPX? Had this more than once.

If you save them in the brush bin and save the project, you mean that they reappear when you open the project? That's a good tip, if that's the case. Thanks.
Peter, when you say, "the most secure method would be to save the brush-building tvpp project regularly", does that save the brush panel? I didn't realize that. My crash was happening when I go to export the TVPX panel, and not over a network. Right on my own hard drive.

The brush bin is not a good option (it's still in TVPaint because some people wants to keep it), because it depends on the config, not on the project (and if your TVPaint crashes, you lose the config).
When I work on a brush for someone, I always create first an embeded custom panel and I grab my brushes there. Each time I save my project, it saves my custom panel and my brushes at the same time.

no, only when you embed the custompanel.
i was referring to the project in which you make the brush. If exporting tvpx files proves to be buggy you should at least first save the source material (the tvpp file) so you can rebuilt relatively easy.
About those tvpx export crashes, see if you can find out when exactly the crash occurs it might help the team to fix that bug.

Just to be clear, you are referring to version 11, not 10.5, right? 10.5 does not do that. I am still waiting on getting 11 via the NFB.
In 11.5, the crash happens during the export.

Elodie,
Interesting and useful info (embedding a custom panel that gets saved when the project gets saved.)
At the same time, I've often wondered if it might not be useful to have a menu-command or a button that updates the config.ini file to the disk WHILE TVPaint remains open. Perhaps it's too dangerous to the config.ini file to allow that? On occasion I've deliberately exited TVPaint just to make sure the config.ini file was updated with something I'd added (new, custom brushes, scripts, panels, etc.). Right now, it seems that the config.ini file is just a data image in memory which is constantly being updated and only gets written when you exit TVPaint.

+1 !
I often close and re-open tvpa for that as well, but it takes some times,
a [Refresh/Update config.ini file] command, leaving the hand to the current (open) session would be very welcome .

TVPaint 10.5.7 64 bit on Mac keeps crashing when I go to save a panel. This is happening on two different iMacs, both running Yosemite. I am losing so much time with this. Any idea what to do? As it happening on two distinct computers, it would not likely be a specific computer problem. Right now, I have recreated the brush I needed and am working with it without saving the panel, which, obviously, is not good at all, but not sure what else to do since it crashes repeatedly.

Does it crash when you make a very simple brush? I ask because it might be some corruption in that one panel.

Yes, it's not a complex brush, but I have tried saving the brush in a different panel and then saving that panel and it crashes. It seems to be random. Sometimes it will repeatedly crash while saving the panel and then suddenly work fine.

But you are doing this always with the same brush, if I understand properly. I am wondering if this will happen with any other brush you make, because that would point to a bug within TVP, but if this is happening only with that one brush you have made, this would indicate that the problem lies within the construction of only that particular brush.

What happen if you do this David ?
Also, does it also happen if you start from a fresh new config ?
