os x 'el capitan' (10.11.1), dongle not recognized

hello tv paint-

i just upgraded to mac os x el capitan, 10.11.1, and my tv paint dongle is not recognized. i don't see specific answers in these forums, but i did go to safenet to see about the latest sentinel driver, but i can't see which would be the correct one.

questions-

1) any known tvp problems with the latest os x?

2) how does one determine the correct sentinel driver?

3) any other dongle recognition procedures to do?

thanks,

Hello Charlie ! You must download and install the latest Sentinel drivers : ftp://ftp.cis-app.com/pub/hasp/Sentinel ... MacOSX.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everything should be fixed :)

hello Elodie!

soooo, sadly, still not working.
i followed your sentinel link, read the readme, installed 'successfully' but tvp still defaults to an 800x800 proj, and then i get the 'dongle missing' dialogue box before it quits...
i restarted a few times, too, but that didn't help.
i didn't UNINSTALL anything first reading that it was a 'one step' procedure.

btw- the readme says this installer works with 10.10, you think it does for 10.11 as well?

any other advice?

thanks again,

charlie

Yes, the installer for Sentinel drivers works on Capitan and I succeeded running TVPaint 10.

Is your dongle plugged in your computer directly ? Or are you using a hub ?

Do you have a firewall which would block port 6002 or 6001 ?

i don't think so. if i go to my system preferences > security and privacy > firewall: it says "firewall currently off, all connections to this computer currently allowed".

Thierry had a similar issue with a school using TVPaint 11. Most Mac could run the software perfectly, and few ones could not. It made not sense, since installation process was exactly the same (and dongles were working).

Another Apple joke ? (Since I upgraded to Capitan, my MacBook Pro won't let me use my additional keyboard for digits...)

Charlie, have you tried to uninstall Sentinel drivers (and delete any track of Sentinel from your Mac), then reinstall them after a reboot ?

Mr. CharlieC,
Now I have a suggestion "back to OS X Marveriks 10.9.5" when you can external FireWire 800 or USB 3.0 HDD for make "Marvericks" bootable drive.

The "Apple farmar" still sowing the seeds of discontent for us, isn't it ?

interim update-

i don't see a way to uninstall anything; the uninstaller opens in 'text wrangler' and is a long block of code. nor do i know how to track down the correct files to remove manually; i see many that are old, but they disperse themselves all through the system, and deleting them probably doesn't work.

SO-

i went to the safenet.com sentinel website and read all their troubleshooting tips, and as well as the readme pdf that comes with the installer.

most of the tools and instructions are for windows machines, and the few that are for mac are... nonsensical to me, e.g. "FrameWork Copy Sentinel.framework and SuperPro32.framework to /Library/Frameworks folder and link with your application."

(is "framwork copy" a verb that i'm supposed to know?!)

and "Uninstallation: If Sentinel.Kext is installed on your machine, remove it using following instructions: $ Change directory to /System/Library/Extensions folder $ sudo kextunload -v Sentinel.kext $ sudo rm -f Sentinel.kext" )"
(?!)

so i then got on the phone with them, got passed around to several helpful but mystified employees, and now i need to wait 2 DAYS for them to get back to me!
thank god i waited until a lull in my work to upgrade, but work could start again anytime and i'm stuck without tvp.

i originally wasn't going to upgrade all the way to 'el capitan', but the mac store doesn't even offer the older upgrades anywhere; one would need to dig up an unauthorized version online and hope that one's IT skills, or lack there of, don't just make everything worse.

do i really need to work at NASA to use some software?! this dongle thing is a real liability, an "achilles heel".

i'll post more when i know more.

in the meantime, thanks for your help and attention.

Apple Store still deals from "OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard" to "OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion" license code for old /used Intel Mac user.
Sadly they presents only "the lastest update" information - introduce of "El Capitan".
If you have Mavericks pre-install Intel Mac (registered with your Apple ID), Apple Store may shows you "download Mavericks" button for recovery.
Other way, using "Internet recovery mode" (boot your Mac with pressing option+command+R) for back to the past.
Anyway, TVPaint edition Mac user has to keep steady OS system and Safenet Wacom must be releace proper & SAFETY driver more quickly.
I wish anything will be OK with you.

Charlie, we will find a solution (i'm sending you an email when i'll arrive at TVPAINT offices - since I'm on the bus).

I'm terribly sorry for all your problems. This is sad neither Safenet nor Apple can help you and unfortunately, we won't have better results (2days for Safenet ? You lucky boy, when we notice a problem in their drivers and send them the necessary to fix it, we have to wait 1 year...).

thanks for your responses, folks-

i'm screwing around with reverting to an older os with a friend, and hopefully with the help of my computer repair guy tomorrow.
i'm not wedded to 'el capitan' unless it's helpful; i might be just as happy with one of the other recent os x's.

i can also boot up from an external drive for tvp; i just have to re-organize my external hard drives a little.

talks soon thru the magic of forums!

ongoing saga-

i had a repair guy downgrade me to 10.10, but the the dongle still doesn't work with driver 7.4.2, 7.5.2, 7.5.3, all of which i tried with the sentinel tech support on the phone.

a clue might be this:
the tech support guy had me go to the about this mac>system report and verified that the key was being seen there, but also says that the "current required (mA): unknown (device has not been configured)". i will attach a screen shot.

the next clue is:
i tried plugging the dongle into an old windows xp tablet i have, with tvp 8.6 on it, and the dongle was not recognized either! they worked together before years ago in 2009, but now they don't which is suspicious.

sentinel tech support are looking into this further, but not sure what they will find; they recommended me to talk with tvp tech support again.

so-
the dongle key might be broken? it still lights up. it's the old one that i got with mirage years ago, so maybe something is wrong with it.

should i get a new one?

thanks,

c
