Adding instances

I want to quickly add a bunch of instances on doubles, but I can't figure out an easy way. When I use the tab to stretch, it only gives me instances on singles. How can I do it on doubles?

Click and drag tab > Increase Layer Length > Add Empty Instances ... these will be on singles (ON 1's) ... Select them all and click on
"2" button under Exposure Tab in the Handy Panel to convert them all to be ON 2's .
That's the fastest way I know .
Maybe there's an even quicker way using a script ?

You can also make your own button that create a new instance, select it and add an exposure cell.
But if you want to create a button that create several instances and double them all, then yes, I think a script will be necessary (especially if you just want to double these new instances).

Thanks for the tip DT. Elodie, here's a suggestion for the "increase layer length" panel that pops up when you drag that tab. If the last instance was a two frame hold, then the "add empty instances" option should refer to that and give you empty instances on 2's. That would seem a very easy and intuitive way based on the last instance. Even better would be a place to input 1 or 2 or whatever beside the "add empty instances" button.

But why do you actually need to create instances first ?
You could also make 2 buttons that move your cursor to the left / to the right on 2 frames (and not 1 frame) in the timeline. Then, you will create your instance automatically when you draw on the empty area of the timeline :
