Brush needed!

Post by David_Fine »

I am looking for a brush to give a natural media texture. In the attached picture, on the left, I used the 4B pencil (adjusted and with opacity reduced) to get the effect you see. On the right, I used a Dry Brush in Photoshop. The one on the right has more grain and a nice graduation from dark to light. Also a random pattern without it going solid black. I can't find that in TVPaint, so I wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to how to achieve that or a brush like that already.

I made a brush and recorded this video to show you how to make your own custom brushes.

This brush is great! Thank you so much, Elodie. I was aware of how to make brushes, but was not sure how to achieve this one easily, but your video is also very helpful. I find that the opacity and the stepping makes a huge difference too. So many small tweaks that can be made to get it just right. :D

You're welcome ! That's the naughty side of custom brushes : once you start, you can spend several hours in making different ones, just by changing "a tiny little parameter here, and this one too, and... blimey ! That's not what I expected, but it's pretty cool ! "

I stamped a sequence of the brush you made me and added few more scattered marks around it to soften the edges further and then grabbed it again. Both are good, depending on the desired effect.
