Thanks for the reply. I want to make sure I understand. The graphics card is OK but TVP requires 8-16GB RAM to run properly?

I had replace Mac mini at twice (4 GB -> 8 GB -> 16GB memory model), so realized "not enough in 4 GB for any Graphical creation" very well.

There are not only running TVPaint Animation on your Mac mini.
Let us view "Mac mini 4 (the present / +1.5GB over capacity), 8 (better) & 16 (max & best) Gigabite memory map".
compare.png
When A .tvpp project file grow up by up, Mac mini ask you more free memory area ; especialy under drawing or editing.
Would you like to want 59% or 74% free memory space for "non delay pen stroke" "good peformance" with "using other software (Multi Tasking)" ?

Is there anything I could do to improve performance?
1) if possible wait for the 11.0.3 (should arrive soon).
2) work in full-screen mode.
3) 4GB 100MHz DDR3 >> not enough !!
4) 1.4 Ghz Intel core i5 >> core i7 are faster.
"using other software (Multi Tasking)"
TVPaint is multi-thread since 1996 ...
TVPaint : 2G of memory
it means nothing. All depends on the project you are using (definition, number of layers ... etc.)

Hello, I must report that unfortunately the lagging problem is still there, not as brutal as before but sometimes (what is more disturbing - randomly) the line is late on bigger zooms and with custom animated brush which makes drawing unacceptable, uncomfortable and annoying experience. Changing to Windows is not an option for me. Also, the full-screen is not the solution since it makes impossible to have other windows visible unless you have an extra monitor, which I don't. I have plenty of memory (the maximum you can put in my type of computer) so, please tell me this is not the memory problem and you are able to fix it :)

EDIT: it is happening even in full screen mode, so it is probably not the same issue. And I have put it on barbecue - no help. So what should I do?

EDIT: after moving out of pegs it becomes practically unusable, so that's it - the program became unusable to me. I don't understand how this can happen. Should I go back to the previous version? At least that one had that thing working. Oh wait, now there is a incompatibility problem with the previous versions... God dammit.

Hi, can you tell which machine do you have and what version of TVP? I am on MacBook Pro, Yosemite and TVPaint 10.5 - I do feel lags, but mostly on playback and scrubbing through timeline. Drawing is Ok, unless it's a very huge file. What it the size of the project you are working on? I agree also that using Out-Of-Pegs slows you down, but not catastrophically - should be still Ok for most tasks and to draw. In general I agree - TVPaint on Mac is much slower than on Windows, but it's still not that bad for me as you describe...

Hello - It is in my signature. (TV Paint 11.0.3-64 bits ; iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) ; OSX 10.10.5 ; AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB; Wacom Driver version: 6.3.15-3)
What was not written in the signature is my memory and processor so here it is: processor: Intel Core i7 4 Ghz; Memory: DDR3 32 GB.
I have noticed that lag is happening when I zoom a lot. When zoom out, less or no lag. In general I am getting more and more pissed at Apple, since there are lot of problems with Adobe applications as well recently, especially Photoshop, but it is also partly the task of software developer to work around this problems, IMHO.

I can confirm this behavior in OS X. First I did some lines and was surprised HOW fast the lines are, even faster than using full screen before (I'm not sure if it's true, but it feels like this to me). But if you zoom a lot the lines are lagging extremely, even more if you're using Out-Of-Pegs too. What is weird, since my Mac is also quite fast (i7 3,5GHz / 32GB Ram).
This lag doesn't occur on Windows by the way (at least not for me).

Feels strange when you can't run a program which should be the simple one on 4400$ machine ;)

Exactly. Especially since I'm not rendering really complex stuff, just some lines. And it's not a tiny lag, it's sometimes even a half second or more.
Please tell me you can reproduce this behavior TVPaint team.

Sorry, I missed that - the signatures are not visible when you're in reply mode already.
That's a fast machine, and much more RAM than I have, but I have different kind of lags, therefore I suppose it's something to do with TVP versions also. But what you say about Apple is true. When I was on Snow Leopard, everything seemed to work so smooth. Now it's worse. And Photoshop - I can't work with it at all! I am also frustrated in a way with Apple, and since I don't intend to switch to Windows any time soon, this frustration is even bigger. If TVPaint will continue that way, I might go back to paper :/

I confirm it on El Capitan as well when I zoom a lot in the project (<230% whatever the size of the project)

Could you please define "that way" ?

Because, on my side, "that way" means spending days with development crew to read Cocoa's development guides, checking any new mysterious change bring by Apple in Mac OS, etc.
We are still aware that you are customers, but please take in consideration that we did a lot on this 11.0.3...

Elodie and team, you are absolutely right and I agree that the big step is done, specially possibility to work on small window which by all means is huge and thank you for that! Apple is the one who is wrong doing here and it is big minus for them. I feel responsible for creating bad feelings and it was not my intention. Please, accept my apologies for that. <3

I am still running Mac OS 10.9 and intend to stay with 10.9 as long as possible because of all these problems I read about with OS 10.10 (problems running TVPaint and Adobe apps ). But at a certain point I will be forced to update I'm sure. The frustrating thing is that it seems now everytime there is a new version of Mac OS it breaks something that used to work. As a long time Mac user I never thought I'd say this, but I am seriously considering that my next computer with be a Windows PC . (but maybe that just exchanges one set of troubles for another set of troubles. A friend told me he has to use a Windows computer running Windows 10 at work and it is absolutely miserable experience ... )

I'm sure this is just stating the obvious, but I wonder if this might be a workaround for us Mac owners: Because it is possible to partition the Mac to run both Mac OS and Windows , would a relatively inexpensive solution (compared to buying a new computer) be to install a Windows partition on a Mac computer to run TVPaint on the Windows side ? Because as I understand it, the problem is with the Mac OS 10.10 , not the Apple hardware , right ? So if TVPaint runs better on Windows , then running it under Windows running on a Mac computer should be ok . A small inconvenience to boot up in Windows to work with TVPaint or Photoshop , then re-boot into Mac land for other things.

It could be the solution, though I couldn't make Windows run properly on my machine yet. But this would be the scope of some other forum topic and group.
